When talking about the new ObamaCare benefits for women’s health, I heard commentators on MSNBC (as well as other networks) and Democratic members of Congress and the Senate talking about these new FREE benefits women, like birth control, mammograms, etc., will be getting starting in August of 2012.

These benefits are not FREE.  They are benefits that no longer require co-pays and don’t require you reaching your health insurance plan deductible before the insurance pays for the benefit.  The benefits are not FREE because someone, the employer, the employer and the employee, or the individual paid premiums to have these services covered under their health insurance plan.

Many plans have certain services where there is no copay and you don’t need to meet the deductible.  Often these are services that if used by the person, will SAVE the insurance company money in the long term.

The message that these benefits are FREE makes republicans blood boil because so many already wrongly view ObamaCare as a government program and that they are now paying for some stranger’s FREE birth control pills.  These FREE services are paid by the recipient of the services in the form of premiums and they lower the cost of healthcare for all.
